Quilting Fabrics in Time offers quilted fabric landscape art in sizes ranging from 3”x5” to 24”x36”. Small pieces of fabric are collaged to create a tactile quilt that looks like a painting. The warm, rich texture of art quilts draws the viewer. As a native of Michigan, Susan’s works are often inspired by the trees and woodlands along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
After loving on fabric and quilting for almost 50 years, in 2014 Susan began creating fabric landscape art quilts. Landscape quilting falls under the “art quilt” category, where natural landscape forms are layered on a fabric background by appliquéing lots of other fabric pieces.
Her teaching skills developed during her life’s work as an educator at K-12 and college levels. Now she enjoys teaching or making presentations on the art of quilted fabric landscaping to various groups in quilt shops, quilt guilds, and community organizations. You can join an existing class or set up a class or trunk show tailor-made for your group.
In addition to viewing or purchasing quilted fabric landscape art on this website, you can also visit various artisan vendor events or shows.
In 2017, her quilted landscape panels with audio story entitled “Reaching Upward” was awarded Top 25 in the time-based category of Grand Rapids ArtPrize Nine. It can also be viewed at www.artprize.org/64820
Other designs have received top honors from quilt shows and the MEA Art Acquisition Shows.
